The Crazy Ant, is recognized easily by its characteristic erratic, rapid movement.  They also have the habit of not following trails as often as other ants.  While the name “crazy ant” is officially connected to this ant species, there are a number of other closely related species that are also called “crazy ants”.  All are potential pests and can be hard to eliminate due to their often foraging long distances from the nest.  Nests are often difficult to locate.

Crazy Ants can successfully survive in the most unusual of places including indoors with humans.  They have been known to establish colonies even on ships at sea as well as on top floors of large apartment buildings or Condos.  One can find nests of Crazy ants in trash piles, garbage cans, cavities in trees, rotten wood and in soil.  The nests can be located by following workers carrying food back to the nest.
