The common house fly is a well known pest of both home and farm. This species of fly is always found in association with humans or their activities. Not only is this fly an annoyance, it is potentially very dangerous in that it can transport disease organisms to people.
The house fly has adapted well to feeding on garbage as well as animal feces. By feeding on all kinds of filth, it can transport germs and virus on their mouth-parts, bodies and feces to contaminate human and animal food. In situations where plumbing is not available, such as with open latrines, nearby open markets and hospitals can be adversely affected. These flies are commonly linked to outbreaks of diarrhea, food poisoning, typhoid fever, anthrax and parasitic worms.
